12/7/2019 0 Comments Swimming Pool ManagementHow often do you check your swimming pool chlorine and ph levels ? Recently it has become apparent that these are not signed off or checked by anyone. So a staff member is assigned this responsibility daily. He is not trained correctly in the task he is carrying out. Example. Specific task assigned... Test the Ph and Chlorine levels with this equipment daily and log it. If it isn’t ....levels than add 2/3 KGS of chlorine. So every day a pool is being maintained at 3.0 ppm even though the ideal and correct levels are 1.0-1.5. Having a pool with such consistent high levels not only causes damage over time to the filters and pumps. It can affect the users in the pool causing skin problems, hair and garment discolouring. Thailand and other parts of Asia still lack basic safety laws More need to be enforced and maintained - this is not the kind of publicity that promotes tourism.... No matter what your industry you need to take responsibility - when a serious safety incident happens on your premises you are responsible. in incidents like this, you cannot rely on your insurance company to cover the costs- instead you could be looking at charges of negligence or in some cases manslaughter - Whilst this article states the "operator" of the equipment ran away, the owner who has taken full responsibility, states they have passed all the recent safety checks. ?? Take a look for yourself at the article and photos, ...the state of the control panel?? https://thepattayanews.com/2019/12/01/four-children-seriously-injured-in-horrific-carnival-ride-accident-in-lopburi-video/?fbclid=IwAR252wdW3ocgE4kaYluR6Z5cyO9JRAyUK01HxS362mhdFd6_pfZfTZoPBAM 11/26/2019 1 Comment Let 2020 be the year you start to take your health and safety systems to the next level. Send us an email today, lets get you started….. A rather odd thing happened recently with a resort in Asia. When I asked them when they did their last night fire evacuation. ( which by the way has been outstanding for the last two visits) Their response was. “ I asked lots of friends who work in other hotels and they have never done a fire evacuation in the evening” so why should we ? we don’t think it’s necessary........ Hmmmmmm now I could provide him with details of 100’s of Hotels that do. Most peoples explanation as to why they do not do this is. We don’t have enough staff on in the evening to do the same fire evacuation. We don’t want to disturb the guests So then, what happens if there is a fire in the resort in the evening when you have the least staff on duty...... Worse still, someone has an fatal accident. This brings us back again to the cost of regular health and safety checks. Its like anything in life if we make it part of our routine it becomes a habit. Your Assets are your staff, the building, equipment, plant etc. Treat them as such or you will lose them. Do you have consistent routines in your business, in your life ? When was your last internal fire evacuation ? When was the last time you walked around and checked your engineers were wearing goggles and PPE protective equipment ? Recently during an inspection I went to check the generator – I asked the engineer to turn it on for me. With the earphones left outside on their hanger, he proceeded to to walk inside to turn it on. Aren’t you forgetting something ? He was NOT in a routine and could be at risk of damaging his ears, due to the loud noise from the generator. Now many people say to me, yes but this is Asia….. there are not the same laws or standards. Yes but you have the equipment. Clearly what you don’t have is the management system in place to ensure these are being worn. Walk around today – be alert and check all areas. If you would like a brief free checklist to complete as you are walking around please get in touch and we will be happy to send you one. |
