4/26/2019 0 Comments Oversized InflatablesA new trend is appearing in hotel pools, large oversized inflatables. These may be fun, but not so if your hotel has an infinity edge pool. Why ? look at the photo and you will see. A child or adult atop one of these can quite easily fall over the edge now of an infinity pool. The recent health and safety guidelines on these types of Inflatables is they should NOT be used in Infinity pools. Infinity pools were allowed as such in pool without safety guards, so long as the depth of the pool by the edge was 1.2 meters or above. Standing in the water even with your arms on top of the edge, would take a lot of strength to heave your self up and over. There is a particular concern with these type of Pools in private pool villas. Please ensure you add a disclaimer to all pool villas. Stating no oversized inflatables to be used. Also not to walk along or around the edge of the pool, especially if there is a large drop of more than 60cm below On another note even if you do not have an infinity pool as your main pool, as a courtesy to other guests please restrict these depending on the size of your pool. In an emergency these could obscure the view of someone in difficulty and could hinder rescue operations. 4/25/2019 0 Comments Explosive Cover upsAfter recently attending a safety and security seminar, we were all quite horrified to find out that the presenter had actually brought in an explosive device disguised in his car mobile…. A pair of swinging Dice…………… So the major jaw dropper here is he was giving a presentation on how to improve the lack of security in hotels. So here we were in a hotel with the knowledge that this guy had got past security and brought this explosive device into the room ?? The GM of the hotel stood at the back horrified…….. We cannot afford in these current times to ignore the security threats out there – Just as this guy said and we have all seen ourselves – Security in hotels, particularly in Asia where this took place carry out the same checks over and over. – stop the cars get the mirrors underneath, some open the boot and then thanks you very much off you go – He went on to explain that any future terrorist do actually do their homework before planning any attack. Maybe days, weeks or even months beforehand. They watch every day the movements, the shifts, where are the cameras, how are security checking the vehicles, what checks are done inside the hotel etc. And so this is why our presenter was able to get through with his device unnoticed. Nobody thought to check his dice…… So we were here to learn and so we did – firstly he advised that all security checks on vehicles should be done randomly – Do different things for each vehicle, ask the drivers to step outside, notice their facial expression – Our presenter kindly added, that if someone had known to check differently on checking his vehicle they would have seen he was sweating profusely – So one car – check under, boot, bonnet, facial expressions – make eye contact, ask questions are you staying here etc – Another car – Please step out of the vehicle – all passengers if necessary – check facial expressions and demeanor. Another car check under car and boot There must be a strict management policy from the hotel, which allows both security staff and your guests to understand this is your security procedures and it is compulsory for everyone. More on other areas of security shortly – Do we need to now have detectors for explosive devices before check in ? This is not the first tragedy at this same company.
There is no excuse for lack of safety checks where people lives are at risk , and especially in a dangerous sport such as this........ Always remember to check your own travel insurance also for coverage before participating in any activities classed as extreme sports such as this.
