Emergency Lighting

Picture

Emergency Lighting is exactly what its name means - Lighting that can be relied upon to be used in case of emergency.

Lighting that needs to illuminate, even if the power goes down.

The most common Emergency lighting you will see in buildings every where is the "green running man type" this are trickled charged with battery whilst plugged into the main electric grid.

There are also the ones with two spot lamps on the top, which are still ok for illuminating dark areas but have no directional signage. Again, these are trickle charged when connected to the mains.

As you will see from the example above- this emergency light is not in good health and not even plugged into the mains.
This was seen recently in an orphanage we inspected here in Thailand.

Checklist for maintaining your Emergency Lights
- Make sure at all times, they are plugged into the main electric grid.
- Check monthly that they are clean and free from dust and the batteries are charging fully.
-Ensure that the lamps are facing in the best direction for maximum lighting
-Make a list of any that are not working, log, repair/replace.
-All Emergency lighting must be checked and logged monthly.
- If you have signage with lighting above or below a fire exit sign, these must be backed up to the generator.
-Emergency lighting must be in all areas leading to the quickest exit to the Assembly point
-Adequate and reliable Emergency lighting must be in place at the Assembly point.
